Perfect Gers: Super Eagles Stars Aribo, Balogun Lead Rangers To Boxing Day Triumph

The Gers are unbeaten in their last 20 Scottish Premiership games, a run that dates back to March, and they added a win to that record with help from their two Nigerian imports

Super Eagles duo of Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun was involved as Rangers secured a fine 1-0 win over Hibernian at the Ibrox, a victory that extends the Gers perfect home record.

The victory, the tenth consecutive home league win for Steven Gerrard's men this season, did not come easy against the Hibs, who had not lost any of their last nine matches.

Centre-half Balogun even thought he had opened the scoring in the 18th minute, but his effort was cleared off the line by the visitors' defence.

The home side finally drew first blood just past the half-hour mark when Romanian forward Ianis Hagi found the back of the net, following a smart assist from Kemar Roofe.

After the break, Rangers searched for the second goal, and Balogun saw another fierce drive towards goal blocked on the hour-mark.

Aribo, though, would feel he didn't have his best game despite completing 91 per cent of his passes and making one key pass throughout the 90 minutes.

That second goal never arrived before the final whistle went off, but Rangers would be pleased with all the three points and their 18th league win in 20 games.

The slim victory over Hibernian helps Rangers extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 16 points ahead of Celtic's game against Hamilton also on Saturday afternoon.
