The Nigerian forward is still finding his feet in the murky waters of Serie A, but his famous compatriot has backed him to enjoy a successful career
Former international Daniel Amokachi is convinced that Osimhen is a quality striker, and the 1994 Afcon-winning attacker expects the Napoli ace to continue to excel for club and country.
Osimhen headlines the 24-man Super Eagles squad that is preparing to face Sierra Leone in an Afcon qualifying doubleheader on November 13 and 17.
The former Lille man is Nigeria’s most productive star during the two matchday-old qualifying series, having scored three goals and created two assists.
Osimhen’s input has helped the Super Eagles to wins over the Benin Republic and Lesotho, with the Gernot Rohr-tutored side leading Group L with six points.
At club level, Osimhen headed the winning goal that lifted Napoli past Bologna in the Serie A on Sunday, his second goal in six games for coach Gennaro Gattuso’s men.
More is expected of the former Sporting Charleroi frontman, who is Napoli’s most expensive buy ever, but Amokachi is confident that, bar injuries, Osimhen will get better.
“We all know he is a quality player, no doubt about that. He is a No. 9 any club would love to have in their team,” Amokachi told Goal.
“The future is in his hands and injury-free, he will keep flying.”
Osimhen, 21, made his Super Eagles debut in 2017 and played eight matches, scoring four goals.
