Following the recent passing of Argentina legend Diego Maradona, the beautiful game has once again been thrown into mourning after losing another star

Former Senegal star, Papa Boupa Diop, has passed away at the age of 42. According to reports, Diop died after a long battle with an illness.

The news comes days after football legend Diego Maradona also passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest in his native Argentina.

Diop was part of the Senegal squad that reached the quarter-finals on their first World Cup appearance in Korea/Japan 2002.

The former Fulham star scored Senegal’s first-ever World Cup goal, which came in the shock 1-0 win over the then-defending champions, France.

He also represented the Teranga Lions at four Africa Cup of Nations and was part of the Senegal squad that finished second at Mali 2002. He won 62 caps for his country, scoring 11 times.

At club level, Diop featured for Premier League clubs like Fulham and West Ham. He also played for Ligue 1 club, RC Lens.
