After the mass exodus of top stars such as Daniel Sturridge, John Obi Mikel, Ogenyi Onazi, Ivanildo Fernandes, Donis Avdijaj, and Firatcan Üzüm from the Medical Park Stadyumu, Trabzonspor now have a new top earner
Nigeria international Anthony Nwakaeme earns a salary of about 1.5 million euros at Trabzonspor, making him the highest-earning player at the Turkish side, according to a report by the Gazete Futbol.
Trabzonspor witnessed the departure of several high earners this summer, including last term’s top goalscorer Alexander Sörloth, who has since joined RB Leipzig and influential midfielder Jose Sosa, who moved on a free transfer to rivals Fenerbahce.
This leaves old boy Anthony Nwakaeme, and a raft of four recently signed stars, including Vitor Hugo (from Palmeiras), Benik Afobe (on loan from Stoke City), Djaniny Tavares (from Al Ahly), and Fousseni Diabate (from Leicester City), as the Red and Blues’ new top five earners.
Nwakaeme, who joined the Blue Sea Storm in 2018, signed a contract extension last year, which will keep him at the Super Lig side until the summer of 2022.
The one-cap Super Eagles star was one of Trabzonspor’s best players last term, smashing in 14 goals and supplying 11 assists in all competitions as the side challenged for the league title and lifted the Turkish Cup.
The 31-year-old has managed just a goal in four appearances so far this term and was not included in the Nigerian squad gearing to face Algeria in Austria by 7:30 pm on Friday.
