Paul Onuachu showed Gernot Rohr why it was wrong to leave him out of the Super Eagles squad after he scored his ninth league goal of the season in Genk’s 4-0 win over Eupen.
The 26-year-old was omitted from the Nigerian squad that will take on Sierra Leone in a doubleheader Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next month.
However, Onuachu, who is Nigeria’s top scorer in Europe this season, sent a message to Rohr with another top performance for Genk.
The former Midtjylland striker opened the scoring for De Smurfen from the penalty spot inside the opening five minutes.
Onuachu then turned provider as he set up international teammate, Cyriel Dessers, who is also not part of Rohr’s latest squad, for Genk’s second.
Theo Bongonda added a third in the 74th minute before the Belgian scored his second and Genk’s fourth eight minutes from time.
The win lifts Genk to fourth on the Jupiler League table with 19 points from 11 games, one point behind Royal Antwerp, who sit at the top.
