Joel Obi supplied a fine assist as Chievo Verona secured a third straight Serie B win on the spin with a 2-1 comeback win at Monza.
The home side started brightly and took the lead on the half-hour mark courtesy of a well-taken penalty kick from Ghana’s Kevin Prince-Boateng.
But a moment of brilliance four minutes after the break dragged Chievo back on levelled terms after Obi delivered a perfect final ball for Filip Đorđević to send home the equalizer.
The 33-year-old Serbian forward then popped up with the winning goal fifteen minutes later to send Giovanni Spaghettini’s men to fourth on the Serie B table with ten points.
Chievo’s number 10 Obi was replaced in the 82nd minute by Mattia Viviani, who then went on to be red-carded moments for a professional foul despite heavy protests from his teammates.
Obi has been featured three times in the league for Chievo this term. The Nigerian midfielder has, however, not played for the Super Eagles since featuring in Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to England ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Obi was part of the squad to Russia, but he didn’t kick a ball despite Nigeria playing three games against Croatia, Iceland, and Argentina.
