Goals have refused to follow the 21-year-old striker’s top performances for the Italian side, and a former club favourite is offering him words of advice
Two-time Serie A winner with Napoli Andrea Carnevale has advised Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen to become more selfish in front of goal and aim to pass less often when in the opponents’ danger area to improve his goalscoring record.
Osimhen got his first Serie A goal two weeks ago in Napoli’s 4-1 thrashing of Atalanta.
But that is the only time the former Lille star has found the back of the net for Gennaro Gattuso’s men in six appearances across all competitions.
Napoli have, however, thrived offensively this term, netting 15 goals in seven games and failing to score in just one – a surprising 0-1 Europa League loss to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.
Carnevale has been impressed with Osimhen’s physical qualities and believes the Super Eagles star’s goals can lift Napoli to Serie A glory.
“For me, the Napoli squad is very strong. Together with that of Inter, it can challenge Juve,” Carnevale said on Radio Cre.
“I know Osimhen. For me, he is very strong. I advise him to be less generous towards his teammates and to start dedicating himself to scoring because he has many (goals) in his legs”.
Osimhen will have the chance to put the advice to work when second-placed Napoli host third-placed Sassuolo on Sunday at the Stadio San Paolo.
