Former Inter Milan and Chievo Verona forward Victor Obinna Nsofor has been without a club since February 2018, but he maintains he has set plans in motion to join an Italian club soon
Forgotten Super Eagles striker Victor Nsofor has been out of competitive action for more than two years. However, instead of thinking about retirement, the 33-year-old reveals he is still in search of a club to represent during the 2020-21 season.
A Super Eagle since 2006, Nsofor is one of a few Nigerian stars to have scored in the Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga, and English Premier League, contributing to a combined 34 goals (21 goals and 13 assists) in those three major European leagues.
The Italian Serie A winner with Inter Milan and Beijing Olympics silver medalist joined South African side Cape Town City in 2017 after a low-key spell in the Bundesliga with Darmstadt 98.
But the Premier Soccer League club released Nsofor in February the following year after managing just one strike in 12 appearances.
No club has been willing to bet on the former Malaga star since then. Still, he is confident his luck will shine this summer having secured Italian citizenship, and he may even get to face Nigeria’s newest sensation, Victor Osimhen.
“Yes, I’ve been off for two seasons,” Nsofor told CalcioNapoli24 as per Daily Times.
“Because when I came back from my last club back to Italy, I couldn’t play for any professional side in Italy due to the foreign rule and I had to wait and push for my Italian citizenship, which eventually now I have.
“I’m an Italian citizen, and hopefully, I’m waiting for the right offer soon, and lastly, I just wish Napoli and Osimhen the best because I believe Osimhen can make Napoli proud and do what it takes to help them to achieve their objectives.”
Nsofor, a member of the Afcon 2006 bronze-winning Super Eagles squad, last played for Nigeria in 2014.
