The former Chelsea assistant manager has already laid hands on silverware in his short stay at the club, but more triumph could be on the way in his first full season in charge
Trabzonspor star Alex Sorloth has praised the management style of boss Eddie Ikem Newton, insisting that with the Anglo-Nigerian tactician at the helm of affairs, success is guaranteed the Turkish side this campaign.
On loan from Crystal Palace, Sorloth enjoyed one of the most prolific periods of his career after he scored 24 times and provided nine assists in the Turkish Super League last term.
The 24-year-old striker still contracted to the Premier League side despite a less-than-wonderful time with the Eagles, has been linked with several clubs after such an impressive season.
But the Norwegian forward insists he is delighted to be working with head coach Eddie Newton, who he says has ‘great ideas’, and has no desire to leave Trabzonspor.
“I am looking forward to the new season,” Sorloth said in an interview with the IHA newspaper (via Turkish-Football).
“I’ve been working really hard in training, and Eddie Newton has upped the level, we are training a lot harder now.
“The new manager has been working on developing my game and has some really great ideas.
“I get the feeling we are going to have a really good season.”
Newton joined Trabzonspor as assistant manager early in the year and was appointed the club’s caretaker manager after the Black Sea Storm lost out in the race to the league title.
The former Chelsea midfielder then guided the side to the Turkish Cup, after which he was named the permanent boss ahead of next season.
