Three years after playing his last game in the English top-flight, the veteran Nigerian midfielder could be making a sensational comeback to the most glamorous league in the world
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has told BBC Sports Africa that he is not ruling out the possibility of joining an English club ahead of the 2020-21 season.
The 32-year-old former Super Eagles skipper has been without a club since leaving Trabzonspor earlier in the year, but he could be calling the shots for West Bromwich Albion next season if the Baggies succeed in getting him.
West Brom gained promotion from the Championship to play in the Premier League next campaign and have been linked with an interest to sign the defensive midfielder.
Sky Sports reports revealed that the vastly experienced Mikel with more than 350 appearances for Chelsea is top amongst players manager Slaven Bilic hopes to fortify the team with.
And speaking to the BBC, Mikel confirms he has received offers from English clubs, and he is open to a move back to his former hunting ground.
“Yes, there are interested clubs and England is a strong possibility, and why not,” said Mikel.
“We are currently in talks with clubs, and there is absolutely no hurry. I can only wait to see what happens.”
The 2013 Afcon-winning skipper enjoyed the most successful period of his career in England, winning all domestic titles available with Chelsea, including two Premier League honours.
