The young Nigerian striker will face some of the world’s most astute defenders in the Italian top-flight next season, but there is no cause for worrying, says a former Nigeria international
The Serie A boasts several tactical, defensive sides. Still, former Super Eagles striker Samson Siasia insists that Napoli’s attacking style and Victor Osimhen’s ‘die-hard’ attitude will help the youngster succeed.
In an interview, which Siasia granted the Premium Times, the former Nantes star expressed his delight at Napoli’s capture of Osimhen, insisting he does not doubt that the ex-Lille forward will excel in Italy judging by how he gives 110 percent in every match.
Such a winning mentality possessed by the 21-year-old Nigerian, Siasia believes, is what has powered Portuguese hero Cristiano Ronaldo to great heights even at his advanced age.
“You look at Ronaldo, at 33-34 he is still scoring goals,” Siasia said.
“As long as you’re a goal scorer, it doesn’t matter where you go, you will still score goals. I don’t think that is going to stop him. I think Napoli is a good team for him to start after leaving Lille.
“If you’re going to Italy, that is a good job seriously, it’s one of the best leagues in the world, and if he leaves there, where else will you go? It’s either you go to England or Spain.
“I think he is going to do well because of his die-hard attitude.”
Osimhen signed a five-year contract with Napoli last month, in a deal that made him one of the most expensive African transfers of all time and also one of the highest-paid Nigerian footballers in Europe.
