Super Eagles star Oghenekaro Etebo was in action for Getafe in the La Liga clash against Granada at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármene stadium, but it was the home side that picked up an unlikely win, coming back from a goal down.
Etebo who was denied the opportunity to travel back to his family during the long break was rewarded with his fifth start in seven La Liga games since he joined Getafe on loan from Stoke City.
It all started for Jorge Bordalas side when David Timor’s 20th-minute curler put the away side ahead. Getafe continued to dominate possession following the goal, but could not extend their lead.
The Azulones went into half-time with the lead, but it was a different story after the break as Granada scored two quickfire goals to turn the tie around.
The Nazaríes drew level in the 70th minute after Carlos Fernandes forced Djene to put the ball into his net.
And just nine minutes later, Fernandez put Granada in the lead with a close-range strike after Granda’s goalkeeper had failed to deal with his initial shot.
Getafe tried to find a way back into the game, but they struggled to create any real chance. The loss is a massive blow to their Champions League hopes as they stay in fifth place, level on points with fourth-placed Real Sociedad who have a game in hand.
Meanwhile, Granada move up to 8th position with 41 points, five points behind Getafe.
