The outbreak of the coronavirus has put a lot of teams in a tight financial situation, but some clubs are still prepared to spend big
According to reports, an unnamed club has made a bid of €85m ( ₦36.5B) to Lille for the services of Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen. The 21-year-old has been one of the best players in Ligue 1 this season despite only joining last summer.
Osimhen joined Les Dogues from Royal Charleroi for €13m last June, but he has settled in quickly. The former Golden Eaglets star has taken France by storm with 18 goals and six assists in 36 games for Christophe Galtier’s side this season.
Ligue 1 defenders have found it tough to cope with the pace and the decisiveness of the 21-year-old. Recently, he was named among in ESPN’s list of best players aged 21 or under.
His form for Lille has linked him with many top sides in Europe including Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Barcelona.
While there were doubts if a transfer could be done this summer due to the coronavirus pandemic, it appears one of the clubs are ready to take Osimhen ahead of next season.
According to Telefoot via France Football writer Matt Spirio, an unnamed club is willing to pay €85m for the services of the Nigeria international.
Should an agreement be reached between the parties, Oshimen will become the most expensive African player of all time, eclipsing the amount Arsenal paid to Lille for the services of Nicolas Pepe.
