There are genuine worries concerning the health of the Nigeria international after the Serie A side issued a worrying statement on Wednesday
Italian club Torino have confirmed that one of their players has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus while revealing that the undisclosed footballer has been immediately placed in quarantine for proper monitoring.
Super Eagles star Ola Aina plays for Torino FC, having joined permanently last summer from Chelsea following a successful loan spell.
In a statement released on the club’s official website, Torino said:
“During the first medical tests carried out on the Torino FC players, a positivity to COVID-19 emerged.
“The footballer, currently asymptomatic, was immediately placed in quarantine and will be constantly monitored.”
It is hoped that the Nigerian defender is not the unnamed player found to be carrying the deadly virus, which has claimed the lives of over 250,000 people worldwide.
The organizers of the Italian football leagues would consider this a blow to their plans to restart the Serie A that had been halted after Italy became one of the countries in the world worst hit by the pandemic.
Before the break induced by the COVID-19, the 23-year-old Aina had featured 25 times for Torino in all competitions.
