The Nigerian was one of the best players in the Eredivisie season that ended early due to the coronavirus, but he could have been playing his football in the North-West of England

Chidera Ejuke has revealed he once had a trial with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side, but the Reds looked in another direction.

Ejuke is one of Nigeria’s best players in Europe following his eye-catching performances for Heerenveen in the Dutch top-flight.

The 22-year-old scored ten times and registered six assists in 29 games for De Superfriezen and was named in the Eredivisie team of the season along with another Nigerian who also took the league by storm, Cyriel Dessers.

Known for his dribbling skills, no player who played more than ten games posted more dribbles than the Nigerian in the Eredivisie this season.

He has proved to be a bargain for Heerenveen, who only paid two million euros to sign him from Norwegian side, Vålerenga last July.

However, things could have been different for him had Liverpool offered him a deal when he had a trial with the Reds.

Ejuke revealed he was invited for trials along with some friends, but the Premier League leaders never offered him a deal.

“I was selected with a couple of my friends,” Ejuke told Super Eagles in an Instagram live video when asked about his time at Liverpool.

“I did the trials for a couple of weeks, and it didn’t seem that Liverpool were interested then”.

“All of a sudden, it wasn’t a success. You feel bad. I felt like I disappointed my agent, my family, the people that believed in me. I never thought something like that would happen.”

Nonetheless, Ejuke could still achieve his Liverpool dream if he continues to deliver impressive performances while also improving.
