Rohr Impressed With Super Eagles Attack

Victor Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho, Brown Ideye, Ahmed Musa, and Odion Ighalo were the pillars of the Super Eagles attack when Gernot Rohr took over as Technical Adviser, but the German tactician has engineered a significant change.

Former Bordeaux manager Rohr is pleased with the calibre of players that makes up the national team’s forward line, and he believes his side can only get better with the addition of Heracles Almelo star Cyriel Dessers.

With Moses and Ighalo retired, Ideye in the international wilderness, and Iheanacho only returning to reckoning after a barren spell, Rohr has relied on a different profile of attackers in recent times.

Lille’s Victor Osimhen has emerged as the Super Eagles’ Number 9, netting four goals in his last four showings. The likes of Bordeaux’s Samuel Kalu, Rangers’ Joe Aribo, and Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze have also been decisive for the team at different times.

With Nigeria deep in the race to qualify for the next African Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup, Rohr is confident he has the players to prosecute the challenges ahead.

“We have Cyriel Dessers now. We have great strikers who can play the position too,” the former Gabon coach said as quoted by the Punch.

“There is a good foundation. We go forward all the time to find our players abroad.

“For wingers, forwards, we have Samuel Chukwueze, Ahmed Musa, Samuel Kalu, Alex Iwobi and others too.

“We have what we need. These are players who have been to the World Cup and have played at some of the biggest stages in the world.”
