John Obi Mikel and Sunday Oliseh were two of the greatest midfielders to have played for Nigeria, and Yakubu Aiyegbeni was asked to pick the better player.
Both played a huge role in two different Super Eagles AFCON winning sides, were former captains of the national team, and also had a similar style of game.
Oliseh was part of the Nigeria squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations title in Tunisia 94, and he also represented the country at two world cups.
Mikel meanwhile was also part of the Super Eagles squad that won the country’s third AFCON title in South Africa in 2013. Like Oliseh, the former Trabzonspor man also represented Nigeria at two world cups.
The two greats also had success at club level although Mikel won a lot more than Oliseh. While their talents were unquestionable, Aiyegbeni was asked who he would have in his side.
The former Portsmouth striker said Mikel won more trophies than Oliseh, but the ex-Ajax man was the better player between the two.
Speaking in a radio-interview with quotes gotten from Eagles Online, Aiyegbeni said: “No doubt, they are good players and have achieved so much with the national teams and their club sides. Mikel is ahead in terms of laurels, but Oliseh is the better player.”
