After following in the footsteps of Ronaldo de Lima, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Luis Suarez in winning the Eredivisie top scorer award, the Belgian-Nigerian is not sure what the future holds.
The coming months may be the most challenging times financially for clubs to sign players, says Heracles Almelo star Cyriel Dessers, throwing doubts in the chances of him leaving the Dutch club in the summer.
The 25-year-old striker smashed in 15 goals from 26 matches to claim the top spot in the Dutch league goal scoring charts for the 2019-2020 season.
His incredible form earned him a first-time invitation to the Nigeria national team and interests from a couple of clubs abroad including Italian side, Cagliari and Belgian champions Club Brugge.
But the coronavirus outbreak has stopped all football activities, with clubs worldwide feeling its negative impact.
Dessers wants to play for a club in the big five European Leagues, but the big striker admits he may not leave Heracles any time soon as the next transfer window may feature clubs with little or no money to splash on new signings.
“I think next summer is the worst time to make a transfer in about a hundred years. That is a strange feeling,” Dessers said to TC Tubantia via Voetbal Primeur.
“The big clubs that were interested no longer have the budget to spend a lot on new players.
“I don’t expect a bid or club like this to be the case last January, I cannot help but wait, and that’s fine. I’m not in control. Nobody saw this coming, life intervened”.
