Odion Ighalo’s move to the 20-time England champions continues to stun many with a former Red Devils hero among those shocked by the switch.
Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam has reacted with shock that his former employers decided to bring in the Nigeria international striker as a temporary replacement for the injured Marcos Rashford.
The Old Trafford giants announced the temporary capture of the 2019 AFCON top goalscorer late on transfer deadline day from Chinese club, Shanghai Shenhua.
This is Ighalo’s second spell in the Premier League having previously played for two and a half years at Watford. The 30-year-old impressively scored 40 goals from exactly 100 appearances across all competitions for the Hornets.
Man United fans remain divided in their opinion of a striker that boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed as an ‘experienced’ lad.
Despite his initial surprise at the loan deal, former fans’ favourite Stam is hoping that the ex-Granada forward can hit the ground running to help the club move forward.
“It’s a surprising signing, he’s got nothing to lose. No-one was expecting this. He can just go in there and do his thing. Hopefully, he’ll do well as we all want to see Manchester United back up there,” Stam, who won three EPL titles for United, told Sky Sports News via Sports Mole.
Across all clubs in his career so far, Ighalo has scored 131 goals from 322 appearances.
