Reasons Why Ahmed Musa May Lose his Super Eagles Captaincy This Year

Ahmed Musa is Nigeria’s longest-serving player in the Super Eagles, but he may need to think about a couple of things as the year (2020) is up and running. With his pair of goals at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, many fans still stand together for him.

However, the player has not been in form in recent times or the news headlines lately, and it remains to be seen how manager Gernot Rohr utilises him given the relationship that exists between him and the player Musa.

Following the subject at hand as regards to Ahmed Musa’s recent form at the moment, this writer highlights the reason why the Eagles skipper may lose his captain armband down in the current year.

Quality Of League

The player’s move to Saudi Arabia was a poor one. Leaving Leicester City to an Asian league was a wrong idea.

This affected his gameplay as well as his form as he was underwhelming all through the qualifiers for the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He failed to inspire with a goal of his own despite featuring in almost all of Nigeria’s game in the tournament.  He certainly needs a move, especially to a top European League when the transfer window opens in the summer.

Numerous Budding Talent

This may well prove to be the significant deciding factor as Nigeria continues to unearth talented players, especially in the attacking front.

The nation is too blessed with football talent and even more in the attacking sect of the game.  Nigerian youngsters continue to display their attacking qualities (flair) in Europe with brilliant performances capped up with goals.

Players like Samuel Chukwueze and Samuel Kalu are prefered on both wings, while Moses Simon and Dennis Bonaventure are also ahead of the Al-Nassr man.

Things could get worse for the Super Eagles skipper if Nigeria ends up adding Ademola Lookman and Sheyi Ojo to the team. However, these two players need to switch allegiance to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in earnest.

With the news making the round that Lookman has taken a step in that direction by applying to play for Nigeria, it promises to be a battle for anyone aiming for a starting shirt in Super Eagles attack.

Nigerians are hoping it happens soon due to the quality he would bring to the teams’ attacking play. But this may not go well for Musa whose place is under threat with quality addition in Nigeria’s attacking third.
