Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong was on from start to finish as Udinese triumphed over Lecce at the Via del Mare Stadium in Monday’s Serie A tie.
The Nigerian international was solid at the back as his partnership with Sebastien De Maio thwarted most of Lecce’s attack.
Monday’s encounter against Lecce was Troost-Ekong’s 15th appearance in the colours of Le Zebrette, but he’s still hoping to register his first goal.
The visitor could have taken the lead in the 33rd minute through Stefano Okaka, but his low drive shot failed to hit the target.
He was also given the opportunity in the 42nd minute to break the deadlock only to place his ball wide the goal post. He thought he found the breakthrough in the 82nd minute, but his effort was flagged off for offside.
However, Udinese will not be denied as Rodrigo De Paul gave them the three points with a late finish.
The victory moved Udinese to 13th place on the Serie A table with 21 points. They will next face Sassuolo in Sunday’s Serie A clash.
