Nigeria’s Star Expresses Delight In his First Goal For Watford

Watford forward, Tom Dele-Bashiru says he is elated to have scored his first goal in the team’s 3-3 draw against Tranmere Rovers in Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup third round at the Vicarage Road.

Goals from Tom Dele-Bashiru, Nathaniel Chalobah, and Roberto Pereyra eased Watford into a 3-0 half-time lead at Vicarage Road before Tranmere responded through Connor Jennings’ header.

Emmanuel Monthe pulled it back to 3-2 with 12 minutes left before Mullin completed the comeback from the spot after Mason Barrett’s foul on Corey Blackett-Taylor.

He told Watford’s official website that he’s delighted with the way he played against Tranmere Rovers but was disappointed with the team’s defensive performance.

The 20-year-old said the boss motivated the players to work hard and prove themselves since his arrival last month.

“It was tough, being my first 90 minutes,” he said. Towards the end, I was struggling a bit but it was a great feeling. The crowd was very vocal, very supportive and it was just good to make them proud and show them what I can do. Mapps [Adrian Mariappa] was giving me a lot of advice, telling me to stay switched on and not to lose concentration. I then had to help Callum [Whelan] when he came on. The older players gave lots of support.

“It was a good feeling to get my first goal as I’ve been working hard in training and it was exciting to show what I can do, but the result wasn’t what we wanted. We kind of lost our organization in the second half.

The 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup star signed for Watford in a six-year deal after his contract expired at Manchester City. The dark-skinned youngster was part of Nigeria’s squad to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland last year, where the team crashed out from the Round of 16 after losing 2-1 to Senegal.
