The Nigeria international’s first half goal was enough to secure back to back victory for Les Drogues in a 1-0 triumph over Brest on Friday night at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen smashed home a 16th minute goal – his 9th of the Ligue 1 campaign – to hand Christophe Galtier’s men a narrow victory that catapulted Lille to third on the log with 28 points.
Lille should have made it 2-0 deep in second half stoppage time when Jonathan Bamba drew a foul in the penalty area. But Bamba failed to capitalise on the opportunity when his right footed shot aimed at the bottom right corner was saved.
Lille had momentum on their side going into this encounter having shocked Lyon in midweek to record their first away win of the season. Les Dogues confidence after that stunning away win, was evident from kickoff with the home side launching waves of attacks in the opening minutes.
It was no surprise when the first chance fell to the hosts when Osimhen’s drew a smart save out of Larsonneur in Lyon goal with sharp shot following a Domagoj Bradaric cross, after just 13 minutes.
But the Lyon shot stopper could do nothing with the former Sporting Charleroi forward’s next shot on goal that proved to be the difference all game.
Victor Osimhen has now recorded nine goals and three assists in 16 league games for Lille since joining from Sporting Charleroi in the summer.
