Iwobi was on for the full 90 minutes as Everton ended their winless run in the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Chelsea at Goodison Park in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.
Before the clash, the Toffees haven’t won a game in the league since November 9 which was a 2-1 win over Southampton.
It was a poor run of form that culminated in the sacking of Marco Silva on Thursday. Having been on the receiving end of a 5-2 trashing against Liverpool on Wednesday, the Toffees boss took the decision to sack the Portuguese with Duncan Ferguson appointed as interim boss.
The former Newcastle star could not have asked for a better start as his side stunned top four hopefuls, Chelsea. Richarlison put Everton ahead in the fifth minute, heading home from a Sidibe cross.
The Brazilian international’s goal ensured the Toffees went into the break with the lead. Shortly after the restart, Dominic Calvert Lewin doubled Everton’s lead following a defensive mix up in Chelsea’s box.
But Mateo Kovacic reduced the deficit three minutes later with a brilliant strike from outside the box. However, Everton will not be denied as Calvert Lewin got his second and Toffees third of the game following another defensive error from Chelsea.
Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi was on from start to finish, and almost set up Richarlison for his second, but Kepa Arrizabalaga denied the former Watford man.
It was Iwobi’s 17th appearance of the season for Everton and has scored two goals in the process. The win takes Everton out of the relegation zone to 14th place with 17 points.
