Iheanacho Not Bothered About Bench Role At Leicester

The former Manchester City star has shut down all transfer talks surrounding his unpleasant situation with Brendan Rodgers side by questioning the logic behind him leaving such a ‘happy’ team.

Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed that he is comfortable sitting on the Leicester City bench and serving as Jamie Vardy’s understudy as he is confident that he will be given opportunities to show his worth.

The Nigeria international was the hero of the day as he helped the Foxes claimed a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Everton at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, providing the assist for Vardy’s equalizer before powering home a 94th-minute winner to break the Toffees hearts. The win pushed Leicester City back to second on the Premier League table above champions Manchester City.

It was coincidentally Iheanacho’s first league appearance of the season – the Foxes’ 14th of the campaign – and his maiden strike to highlight how much potential the 23-year-old could unleash if playing regularly.

But with the January transfer window fast approaching and with the likes of Southampton and Aston Villa believed to be interested in snapping up Iheanacho on a loan deal, the Super Eagles forward has reiterated his desire to continue to play second fiddle to the Premier League’s leading scorer this term.

‘He (Vardy) is a top lad and a top striker in the world, everyone knows,’ Iheanacho told Dailymail

‘I am playing with him in training and watching him which inspires me as well.

‘I will keep going. We can play as two strikers or we can play one striker as well.

‘It depends on how the manager wants to play and set up the squad and everyone is important. We need everyone.

‘Being, maybe you can call it, a back-up striker or support striker to them is something I am happy to be.

‘Of course I could get my chance, it depends on what the manager wants to do.

‘I am happy here (at Leicester City), everyone is happy.

‘The manager is a top manager who is friendly to everyone.

‘I don’t see the reason why anyone could want to leave. I think he gives everyone chances, there are a lot of games coming up.

‘I believe in myself if I get the chance. It happens in football, sometimes you can face trying times or sometimes you can play.

‘It is a time I have to face in my life and just have to keep going. I just have to keep my confidence and be strong.’
