Eleven goals and five assists from just fifteen games have catapulted the 24-year-old striker to the top of the Eredivisie top scorer chart and have convinced some that Cyriel Dessers may be a great addition to Gernot Rohr’s side.
Former Utrecht forward, Cyriel Dessers is the rave of the moment in the Netherlands with the little known forward recording a brace and an assist as Heracles Almelo whipped ADO Den Haag 4-0 at the weekend.
Dessers, born to a Belgian father and a Nigerian mother, is eligible to play for the Red Devils but it is the Super Eagles who have impressed the goal machine and with whom he desires to make his international career.
Despite Nigeria’s senior national team boasting the talents of Lille’s Victor Osimhen, Genk’s Paul Onuachu and Club Brugge’s Emmanuel Dennis, football analyst Peter Vandenbempt believes Dessers has the qualities that can boost the Super Eagles attack.
“He is still only 24 and a real striker. I called a Dutch colleague who says that Dessers is really phenomenal,” Vandenbempt told ExtraTime as monitored by Soccernet.ng.
“He has not only developed as a goal scorer, but also as a footballer.
“He is very happy in the Netherlands and said that he might continue to live there.
“It is also interesting that he is a Belgian Nigerian. He could therefore play for the national team of Nigeria. That is his distant dream, but the competition is fairly strong.”
