Former Levski Sofia Defender Gives Final Verdict On Nigerian Football For 2019

in News, Nigeria

Ex international, Garba Lawal has revealed that 2019 offered Nigerian football something to smile about despite the failure of the age-grade teams in their various competitions.

Popularly known as ‘Chindo' in his playing days, the former Levski Sofia defender stated this on Tuesday as he X-rays the general performance of the various national teams.

Recall that Super Eagles picked up a bronze medal in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt after overcoming Tunisia 1-0 in the third-place match.

But then, the duo of the Super Falcons and Dream Team failed to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games after they were eliminated from the qualifying series.

Also, the trio of the Golden Eaglets, Home-Based Super Eagles and the Flying Eagles failed to impress at the various competitions that they competed in 2019.

In a chat with Completesports, Lawal said that he was delighted with the general performance of the Super Eagles. He also hopes that 2020 would be a good year for Nigeria football.

“For me, it was a fantastic year for Nigerian football except for the junior teams who did not do well.

“That’s football for you, it is always full of ups and downs, and I know the Nigeria Football Federation is not happy with what happened.

“Like I said, that’s football, if you don’t lose you wouldn’t know that there are problems just like what we saw with the junior teams.

“Let’s hope things will be good for our football in 2020.”
