Slavia Prague hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League may appear unrealistic, but the team will be aiming for a positive result when they host Inter Milan at the Sinobo Stadium on Wednesday.
With two points in the bag, Slavia Prague still have a mountain to climb and will be relying on Super Eagles forward, Peter Olayinka to shoulder the goal-scoring responsibility against an Inter Milan side that are desperate for points.
Recall that Olayinka netted his first goal in the Champions League in the team’s 1-1 draw against the Nerazzurri in matchday one at San Siro on September 18, 2019.
The Nerazzurri find themselves three points off a qualification place in Group F – widely billed as this year’s ‘group of death’ – and need a win to realistically keep their chances of qualifying alive.
With two rounds of matches remaining, all four teams in this pool can still advance to the last 16. However, Slavia would need to beat both Inter and then Borussia Dortmund away.
The last thing Inter need, apart from a bad result of their own in Prague, would be for Dortmund to beat Barcelona in Camp Nou on Wednesday. That would leave Barcelona needing a result in San Siro two weeks from now, so either a victory for the Spanish champions or a draw would be better scenarios for Antonio Conte’s side.
However, there is no guarantee Inter will prevail in Prague. The last time they met in September 18, 2019, they needed a Nicolo Barella’s late goal to draw 1-1 at San Siro.
