Tottenham Hotspur have extended their searchlight on Lyon danger man as the team bid to solidify their squad during the January transfer window.
According to The Mirror, Spurs sent scouts to watch Memphis Depay in action during a recent pair of games against Benfica and will make a £50m bid once the summer market opens.
The North London side remain on the lookout for an attacking midfielder capable of hitting teams at pace having failed in their summer pursuit of Paulo Dybala.
The Dutchman moved to Old Trafford in 2015 but failed to make an impression under Louis van Gaal ahead of leaving the club in January 2017, scoring just seven times in 53 appearances.
Memphis has since enjoyed a resurgence of form at Lyon, for whom he has scored 34 goals across the past two full seasons, and is also an important member of Ronald Koeman’s revived Netherlands squad.
Memphis has previously suggested that he would be open to a return to the Premier League once he leaves Lyon.
