The board took the decision of dismissing the Spaniard after a run of no win in their last seven games including Thursday’s Europa League loss to Eintracht Frankfurt at home.

In an official statement released on the club’s website, Arsenal revealed Emery was sacked following a couple of disappointing results.

We announce today that the decision has been taken to part company with our head coach Unai Emery and his coaching team.

Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand. We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success.” The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required.

Meanwhile, Freddie Ljungberg will take over from Emery till the club announce a permanent successor. Ljungberg who is a former player of the club was the club’s U-23 manager before Emery’s dismissal.

He made over 300 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 71 goals. In a statement released on the club’s website, the Swede will be in charge when the Gunners take on Norwich at Carrow road.

We have asked Freddie Ljungberg to take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach. We have full confidence in Freddie to take us forward.

The search for a new head coach is underway and we will make a further announcement when that process is complete.
