The Super Eagles head coach has finally revealed a two-year dream that could permanently put to bed all the rumours and debates surrounding his contract extension, Soccernet.ng reports.
German tactician Gernot Rohr is determine to lead the three time African champions to continental glory in 2021 and with his contract expiring next year, the former Bordeaux manager would likely be open to signing the papers for a new contract.
“It will be exciting for me to win the 2021 AFCON title with Nigeria. That’s my desire, and I will be the most excited,” Rohr told reporters at the post-match press conference.
“So, winning today (Wednesday) is just the beginning. I can’t be excited until we win the title in 2021.”
Benin proved to be a stubborn customer at the Akwa Ibom Stadium in Uyo, scoring first within 120 seconds of kickoff but Nigeria responded well enough to claim a narrow 2-1 win courtesy of goals from Lille’s Victor Osimhen and Bordeaux’s Samuel Kalu.
“The Super Eagles had a lot of scoring opportunities, but they failed to convert all of them,” Rohr added.
“In the second half, we played a very good match, ‘one-touch two-touch’, and we have good wingers. We had a lot of opportunities, and with the changes we made, we did very well. It is good for us.”
The three-time African champions sit top of Group L with three points and travel next to Lesotho to face the Crocodiles at the Setsoto Stadium, Maseru on Sunday.
