Reactions continue to trail Super Eagles victory over Benin Republic in the AFCON 2021 Group L qualifier that was played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Goals from Victor Osimhen and Samuel Kalu secured the three points for Nigeria after Stephane Sessegnon had put the Squirrels ahead in the 2nd minute.

Following the win, Super Eagles players including Joe Aribo took to their social media pages to express their delight in the victory.

Aribo who was not expected to start after arriving on the eve of the match gave a man of the match performance in what was his first game on home soil.

After the match, the Rangers midfielder took to his Twitter page to express his excitement at the team’s victory. “Good win in our first AFCON 2021 qualifying game! Always an honour putting on the shirt. Thanks for your amazing support!”, Aribo said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Gernot Rohr has revealed why the former Charlton man started the game despite arriving on Tuesday. Responding to the question posed by Soccernet.ng Chief Editor, Rohr revealed Aribo told him he is ready to play.

“Aribo told me he was not tired after a long flight, and I have confidence in my players when they tell me they are ready to play,” Rohr began.

“Also his father was here and this his (Aribo’s) second time coming into the country, so it was important for him to play.”

Aribo and the Super Eagles will hope to make it two wins out of two when they take on Lesotho in the second round of matches of Group L.
