Premier League: Bad News For United, But Liverpool Receive Huge Boost Ahead Of Sunday Clash

Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow ahead of the huge Premier League clash against arch-rivals and leaders Liverpool on Sunday at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils will have to do without their two most important players for the clash after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed David De Gea and Paul Pogba will miss the clash against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

De Gea picked up his injury in Spain’s 1-1 draw against Sweden on Tuesday. The former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper walked off the pitch with a suspected injury and will likely not recover in time for the big clash at Old Trafford.

Pogba meanwhile has not featured for United since the 1-1 draw against Arsenal and will be missing again on Sunday as he battles his way to full fitness.

Speaking to Skysports, United manager revealed De Gea needs a scan to determine the extent of his injury, but it is unlikely he will take part in Sunday’s game.

“David needs a scan,” United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. “I think he’ll be out. It certainly looked like it anyway judging on last night so it’s just one of those things.”

On Pogba, the Norwegian confirmed he is working his way to fitness, but the Liverpool game will come too soon.

“Paul had an injury, he came back, he worked really hard. He came back and played a couple of games, maybe played through the pain barrier.

“He had a scan after the Arsenal game and maybe needed a few weeks’ rest in a boot so hopefully he won’t be too long, but he won’t make this game, no.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been given a huge boost as United battle their injury problems. The Reds are set to welcome Alisson Becker and Joel Matip back to the fold after they both return to training.

Alisson has not featured for the Reds since he went off on the opening day of the campaign, while Joel Matip missed Liverpool’s last two games due to a knock.

The duo’s return is a massive boost for Liverpool who will be hoping to pick up their first win at Old Trafford since 2014.
