Liverpool have qualified for the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup after overcoming Arsenal 5-4 on penalties on Wednesday at Anfield.

The Reds took an early lead in the 6th minute thanks to Shkodran Mustafi’s own goal. The Gunner leveled parity in the 19th minute through Lucas Torreira’s simple finish before Gabriel Martinelli’s double to give the team a 3-1 advantage.

However, James Milner reduced the scoreline before the half time to 3-2 via a penalty.

At the resumption of the second half, Ainsley Maitland-Niles extended the Gunners two-goal advantage in the 56th minute before former Arsenal player, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain smashed home a brilliant shot in the 58th minute to reduce the scoreline to 4-3.

Liverpool eventually made it 4-4 with a sublime finish from Divock Origi to the delight of the home supporters.

The Gunners took another shock lead in the 64th minute as Joseph Willock’s stunning shot outside the 18-yard box beat Liverpool goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher.

Origi saved the day for Liverpool as he netted in the 94th minute to send the game into penalty shootouts.
