Not satisfied with the decision of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to have awarded the CAF Champions League to Esperance of Tunisia, the management of Wydad Athletic of Morocco have decided to drag CAF to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Recall that On Sunday CAF Appeal Board, ruled that Tunisia’s Esperance won the title on 31 May, despite a petition by Wydad appealing against a goal scored by the club in the second leg of the competition, which was disallowed without the usage of the Video Referee Assistant (VAR).
Wydad President Said Naciri, who is also the President of the Moroccan Football League, assured that the club would take the matter to CAS where he believed that they would get the right judgment.
“We will defend our rights until the end,” Naciri said.
“For two months we have been fighting this “oppression”. Esperance doesn’t deserve to win the cup in the way we witnessed in Rades.
“Our next step is to take the case back to CAS to seek fairness.”
