Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dismissed suggestions his side are the best in Europe despite their champions league success last term and their impressive start to the new season.
Liverpool won their sixth European trophy last season by beating Tottenham 2-1 and have also started the new season brilliantly, having won all their league games so far.
The Reds begin the defence of their title tonight when they take on Naples, but Jurgen Klopp insists his side are not the best in Europe, while he also added there’s no extra burden being holders as they began a quest for seventh European crown.
“We cannot be the best team in Europe because Man City is the best team in the world, that is the same planet, I reckon!
“There are a lot of good teams around and we have to prove it constantly. I am not sure if we were the best team in Europe last season, but we were really brilliant at the right moments. And that is why we were able to win the Champions League.
When asked if Liverpool feels an extra burden as they began their title defence : “We don’t feel the burden,” said Klopp. “I don’t know exactly how that should feel, [the final] was so long ago, three or four months.
“Will teams now play differently against us? I have no clue, we will experience that but I hope we are prepared. Napoli, I think the majority of the team stayed together and they are a great side. It was maybe not exactly how they want it as they fight for league [and Juventus won it] but they have started very well.
