Nigeria 1-0 Algeria: Super Falcons coach reveals areas where team’s still poor

Thomas Dennerby, the head coach of the Super Falcons has pointed out the team’s weak areas and the need for more work to be done following the Falcons’ unimpressive 1-0 win over Algeria in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics football event qualifier.

Dennerby, 2004 Swedish Manager of the Year, admitted after an Asisat Oshoala’s second half strike handed the Super Falcons a lone goal victory that the team was nowhere near being the finished product yet and more work would be done on their passing and coordination.

The Nigeria national female team outclassed the Algerians 2-0 in Algiers and a bigger margin of victory was expected in the return leg.

However, speaking in a chat with Brila FM which was monitored by Soccernet.ng, Dennerby promised to work on the identified lapses before the team’s next outing.

“First of all the result of this game I think we defended very well but our pressing game and our attacking game was not good enough.

“Bad timing and running, slow runnings, too many touches on the ball, so we need to improve the team a lot in the attacking game next game”.

The former police officer was appointed to take over the handling of the Super Falcons in 2018, five years after leaving football management. He has however guided the team to AWCON glory and the second round of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
