The Super Eagles forward has finally reacted to the frequent comparisons made between him and the departed Lille star as seventh-placed Les Dogues prepare to take on fourth-placed Rennes in a Ligue 1 clash on Sunday afternoon.
Victor Osimhen has expressed his delight at being compared to Arsenal’s record signing Nicolas Pepe but is quick to state that he is a different player to the Ivorian forward.
Arsenal splashed £72m to acquire the services of Pepe over the summer from Lille with the French club wasting very little time to draft in Victor Osimhen from Belgium’s Sporting Charleroi.
The U-17 FIFA World Cup star has needed little time to settle down as the Nigerian already has five goals in five league games to his name.
However, Nicolas Pepe is still struggling to find his feet in London as he is yet to score for his new side but Osimhen has expressed his admiration for the Gunners forward.
“Big respect to Nicolas Pepe for what he did for the club,” Osimhen was quoted by InsideFutbol.com as monitored by Soccernet.ng.
“Like a lot of people say, I’m replacing Nicolas Pepe, he scored some beautiful and wonderful goals, but I think I am near to bringing in my own qualities to the team.
“Nicolas Pepe and Victor Osimhen are quite different players, so it’s OK if ever some people try to compare me and him.
“I feel good to be compared to such a great player.
