After watching his team suffer a shocking 3-2 loss to Norwich on Saturday evening, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has “sarcastically” called Liverpool the new Premier League champions.
In what is the biggest upset of the embryonic Premier League season, Guardiola’s men suffered their first loss of the season as goals from Mclean, Cantwell and Pukki secured a dramatic victory for the Canaries.
As a result, the Champions are now five points behind title rivals, Liverpool who defeated Newcastle 3-1 in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.
Speaking after the loss, Man City manager, dismissed the notion that his side have handed the initiative to Liverpool by jokingly congratulating them as the new Premier League champions.
“We are in September, okay?” he said. “Congratulations Liverpool, you are the champions… “We’re in September, what do you have to do? We’ll recover, train and come back.
“We’ve dropped five points. Tottenham, we played incredibly well. Today, in the important parts we have to know exactly what to do.”
The former Barcelona manager also praised Norwich for the confidence they showed in the game, calling them brave.
“They are a really good team with good players who have quality, we saw that in the way they destroyed the Championship last year. They were clinical. They have courage. They are brave.”They want to play and when they lose the ball they defend so deep.”
