Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that the club has been hit with ugly news as French defender Aymeric Laporte is set to face a lengthy absence.
Aymeric Laporte will be out of action until the new year after medical reports confirmed that the France international has suffered a serious knee injury, reports Soccernet.ng. Laporte was stretched off injured in the Citizens 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on the last day in August.
Asked how long the centre-back will be out for during a pre-match conference, Guardiola said: ““Five months, six months. Next year sure, January or February.”
However, it is not all gloom and doom as there were some slightly better news for City fans regarding Leroy Sane’s and Mendy’s potential return.
“He [Sane] is coming back before the end of the season,” Guardiola said.
“He was injured in August so he should be perfect by December, January and February.
“The surgery was good and he’s back now with us making his rehabilitation. Hopefully it will go well.”
Benjamin Mendy, according to the City manager, is also closer to returning to action following his latest injury setback.
“He’s good, he’s training now,” Guardiola said.
“I’m delighted because he has been training regularly with us for the last two weeks so hopefully in the next few games he can start to be part of the squad.”
