Arsene Wenger takes side with Sadio Mane in Mo Salah row

The former Arsenal manager has slammed the Egyptian forward for being “too obsessed” with scoring as the Mohamed Salah-Sadio Mane saga rages on.

Arsene Wenger believes Sadio Mane is right to be angry at his Liverpool teammate for failing to give a pass late on in the Reds 3-0 win at Burnley last weekend.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has come under fire following that victory despite manager Jurgen Klopp trying to play down striker Mane’s angry display after being substituted in the 3-0 win at Burnley last weekend.

Former Arsenal manager Wenger has identified the similarities that Salah shares with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi while pointing out the weaknesses the forward needs to improve on.

“He [Salah] has similarities with Messi,” Wenger told beIN Sports, as monitored by Soccernet.ng.

“He must find the consistency of Messi.

“I find he’s a good finisher but Messi has the complete thing, he gives the final ball as well.

“Salah is a bit obsessed with finishing himself.

“That’s a dimension he’ll get certainly, when he grows a little bit older, to find the moment when you have to give the ball and when you have to finish.

“But I like him very much, he has huge potential. Mane as well.”

Wenger however could not hide his admiration for Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino, who he compares favourably with another Barcelona star Luis Suarez.

“But you forget a little bit the guy who sacrifices himself is Firmino,” Wenger added.

“And like (Luis) Suarez did for Messi and Neymar, [Firmino] is the guy who works for the team, who works for everybody and gets them to shine.

“This piece of the jigsaw is always difficult to find, a striker who is generous.”
