Eric Chelle gets World Cup boost with Super Eagles star set for March return

Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi is set to return to action in March after spending the last seven months on the sidelines due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Soccernet.ng reports.

Moffi has been out of football since July 2024, when he sustained an ACL injury during Nice’s pre-season. That injury has kept him out of Les Aiglons’ last 29 games across all competitions.

Recall that Moffi also had a consistent place in the Super Eagles despite playing second-fiddle to Victor Osimhen. The injury also kept him out of Nigeria’s last six games. In fact, he missed the entire 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Nigeria will play next in March this year, when they take on Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the crucial 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. The Super Eagles are in a bad situation, as they sit fourth in Group C with three points after four games.

Coach Eric Chelle, who was appointed as the new manager, has been tasked with leading Nigeria’s comeback and helping them qualify. And the former Mali international is set to get a boost in his forward line.

This is as Axel reports that Moffi is set to return to full training this month before returning to the pitch early next month. This means that Moffi could even make the squad for the Qualifiers in March.

This will give Chelle a boost in the final third, as Moffi has more international experience and has proven to be a better deputy than Victor Boniface.

Moffi could also be very useful for Nice as they try to secure a European spot in Ligue 1 before the end of the season.
