Soccernet gives its verdict on the Premier Team of the week.
Goalkeeper: Ederson (Manchester City) – While 5-0 was a rout of West Ham, City would not have had a clean sheet but for a stunning double save from Javier Hernandez and Manuel Lanzini.
Defence
Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal) – Set up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s winner at Newcastle, but also showed his prowess as a ball-winner with four tackles.
Lewis Dunk (Brighton) – Gave Graham Potter a dream start by keeping a clean sheet in a new-look defence and playing a brilliant ball for Neal Maupay’s goal.
Harry Maguire (Manchester United) – Showed why United have made him the world’s most expensive defender with a dominant display at the back against Chelsea.
Erik Pieters (Burnley) – A low-profile signing, but a superb start. Pieters slotted in seamlessly and got assists for both of Ashley Barnes’ goals.
Midfield
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – Looked back to his best straight away. His strike in the 4-1 win over Norwich was a trademark goal. Also got an assist.
John McGinn (Aston Villa) – Villa lost in the end but only after McGinn scored their first goal back in the Premier League in a terrific display against Tottenham.
Paul Pogba (Manchester United) – Showed why United were so keen to keep him by creating two goals in the rout of Chelsea, one with a pass, one with a run.
Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) – Just gets more prolific. After his Community Shield goal, Sterling eviscerated West Ham with a hat-trick, including a fine lob.
Striker
Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) – The England captain used to have August droughts, but not this season as he scored two late goals to defeat Aston Villa.
Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) – The scourge of Chelsea. Scored two brilliantly-taken goals and played a part in Anthony Martial’s strike in a 4-0 thrashing.
