Liverpool legend hails Super Eagles hopeful as ‘outstanding’

in Europa League, News, Nigeria, This Week

SHEYI OJO scored one and provided another two assists as Steven Gerrard's men defeated FC Midtjylland 3-1 at Ibrox to leave the Liverpool legend delighted.

A brace from Morelos and a fine Ojo finish ensured that Glasgow Rangers emerge 6-3 aggregate winners and proceed to the next round of the Europa League.

Alfredo Morelos was the beneficiary of Ojo's two superb assists as the Colombian striker took his European tally for Rangers to eleven as he netted the first and third goals on 14 and 49 minutes.

Sheyi then popped up in the opponent's box to fire home from close range Rangers' second of the night before half-time, courtesy of Alfredo’s accurate cut-back cross.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard commended his team while singling out his two forward players for special praise.

“They are two great players, very mobile and very hungry to go and get numbers in the game,' a delighted Gerrard said.

“I thought Sheyi was outstanding today but I think Jordan Jones has been really strong in his last couple of performances so I was keen to get him a run-out as well.

“But Sheyi will take a lot of the plaudits and a lot of credit tonight. I think that’s the real Sheyi. If we can find that on a consistent basis and bottle that performance he’ll certainly make us stronger.

“Alfredo is Alfredo. He attacks the goal frame, shows great composure for his first goal and great control for the second one.

“Unfortunately he wasn’t able to stay on the pitch for obvious reasons but I’m really pleased with all the front men with Scotty Arfield getting the assist as well. So really pleased.

“I think in terms of numbers and personnel we look very strong, but players need to keep stepping up and keep performing.

“It’s no good having numbers and names, we need people to come in like Sheyi tonight and perform and Jordan Jones in the previous games. Jermain Defoe gets a hat-trick at the weekend, Alfredo two.

“So when you get the opportunity keep contributing and keep getting us the numbers that get important victories.”

Why was SHEYI OJO not invited to the super eagles? Does he also need clearance from fifa b4 he could play for 9JA?
This is the guy i was expecting to be invited…. Should we have him (OJO) and CHUKWUEZE in the super eagles now; then we are definitely the prime BAYERN MUNICH of the days of prime (ROBEN & RIBERY)…
Our wings will be more dangerous than that of MAN.CITY….

We will torment teams in africa and the world….

Pls help me tell NFF to do all they can to get OJO to play for NAIJA,,,, we need this boy more than TAMMY ABRAHAM… We’ve gotten OSIMHEN & OKEREKE to take charge of our NO.9 role…. Lets do away with Abraham and the rest that doesn’t show any interest in playing for 9JA….

Sheyi Ojo would be immense with the Super Eagles. Let’s hope he makes the next list.

What about the home players? Does it imply that we don’t have talents in Nigeria. What is really happening

Hello Nicholas , with respect to the home based players, I feel they can make a case for themselves by winning a continental medal. When enyimba won the 2002/2003 champions league, most of their players made it to the national teams of their respective countries. Vincent Enyeama, Muri Ogunbiyi fro Benin rep. , Joatex frimpong from Ghana. Ramonus Orjinta, okemiri, aiyenugba. The list is endless.
The home based players can start off by winning the CHAN and we can look into transitioning them to the National team. These home based players will not cut it against Mahrez, salah and mane talk less of Ronaldo, and messi

You can only use these home based players if we are not ambitious as a country i.e if we aim or mediocrity.

I personally need Sheyi ojo and Tomori in the next team and remember these guys are world champions from U-20.. It is only a matter of time before they get called up to the English National team… We definitely do not need Tammy Abraham for now
