Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard had his baptism of fire in the Premier League as Manchester United pummelled Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The first few minutes saw both teams lose great chances to take the lead as Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham’s shot hit the woodwork before Man United’s Anthony Martial fails to convert a loose ball that was directed to him by Kourt Zouma.
In the 9th minute, the Blues could have taken the lead but for poor positioning of Abraham, he could not meet Azpicueleta’s low shot.
Old Trafford came alive in the 18th minute when Marcus Rashford converted a penalty after Zouma fueled him at the 18-yard box.
Despite Chelsea losing 1-0, the team kept possession of the ball and could have levelled parity only for Ross Barkley’s shot to hit the woodwork again.
The first half ended with Frank Lampard’s side dominating the play while Man United capitalised with their first shot on target via penalty.
At the resumption of the second half, Martial extended Manchester United lead in the 65th minute with a simple tap in before Rashford earned his double when he capitalised on Chelsea poor defence to make the scoreline 3-0.
The Blues were further stunned once again in the 81st minute when substitute James netted to make it 4-0 to the delight of the vociferous fans.
