Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are one step away from qualifying for the semi-final of the ongoing All Africa Games (AAG) after defeating South Africa 2-1 in the second group A match fixture at the Stade Hassan Moulay, on Tuesday.
The Paul Aigbon’s led team took an early lead through Collins Sor’s simple finish ad could have earned his double but for poor finishing.
Nigeria could have wrapped up the game in the first half as the team had a couple of goal scoring chances but could not make it count.
In the second half, the Flying Eagles were made to pay dearly for their profligacy in front of goal as the Amijita leveled parity in the 55th minute thanks to a powerful low shot from Ofentse Mashiane that went straight into the back of the net.
However, Nigeria extended their lead in the 76th minute through Abubakar Ahmed’s well-slotted ball to the top corner of the net.
The win means the Flying Eagles have four points in two matches after drawing Burkina Faso 1-1 in the opening fixture last week Friday.
Nigeria’s final group B fixture will be against the host, Morocco on Friday in Rabat. A win or draw will be enough to qualify the team to the semi-final.
Good to see that they came back strong to beat south africa
