Kelechi Iheanacho made it three goals in two games for Leicester City after he scored twice in the Foxes 2-2 draw against Rotherdam to send a message to Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr ahead of AFCON 2021 qualifiers.
Iheanacho has struggled for form since he joined the Foxes in 2017 and as a result, was left out of Super Eagles squad that finished third at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
He had his attitude questioned by Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr, while there were reports he could be sold or loaned out by Leicester’s manager, Brendan Rodgers.
However, it looked like his omission from the Super Eagles squad that went to Egypt gave him a kick up the backside as he scored his third goal in two games for Leicester City on Saturday.
The Foxes who are preparing for the new premier league season played two pre-season friendlies on Saturday with Brendan Rodgers taking charge of the game against Rotherdam, while his assistant, Chris Davies took charge of a weakened side against League one team Millers.
Iheanacho was part of the stronger side that Rodgers took charge of and it only took him 12 minutes to score his second goal in two games. The former Manchester City star finished past Millers goalkeeper after receiving a pass from Harvey Barnes.
He could have added a second minutes later but Millers goalkeeper was up to the task to deny him. But he will not be denied late in the second half, as he rounded substitute goalkeeper, Lewis Price to finish into an empty net.
With his brace, the Nigerian international will go into the season full of confidence as he hopes to regain the form that once saw him touted as the next big thing in Nigerian football.
