Former coach of Enyimba, Samson Unuanel has called for early preparation for Nigerian clubs that will be flying the country’s flag at the CAF Champions League.
The former Kwara United coach made this known on Tuesday in a chat with Soccernet, where he berated the low performance of the clubs in the continental competition.
He also frowned at poor planning from some of the clubs management and canvassed for proper funding to ensure the team succeeds this term around.
Two-time champion, Enyimba international and Aiteo Cup winner, Kano Pillars will represent Nigeria at this year’s Champions League.
The Aba Boys will face Rahimo of Burkina Faso while Pillars host Asante Kotoko of Ghana in the Preliminary stages.
“I am not really feeling happy that Nigeria have not won the CAF Champions League after Enyimba last won it in 2003.
“We have the players in the league that can get the job done but lack of proper preparation has always been the issue.
“Having seen the two clubs that will be representing us at the competition, I want to believe that Enyimba and Kano Pillars can make the country proud if the right things are done. Funding is also key if the teams must succeed.”
