AFCON 2019: Rohr Reveals Why Onyekuru and Osimhen Have Not Had A Chance In Super Eagles Lineup

in AFCON, News, Nigeria

Super Eagles manager Rohr has once again defended his treatment of Henry Onyekuru and Victor Osimehn ahead of the team's Total Africa Cup of Nations semifinal clash against Algeria.

Onyekuru and Osimehn are two of Nigeria's bright talents currently, but they are yet to be given a chance at the ongoing biennial tournament in Egypt.

Rohr's decision to keep ignoring the duo has been called into questioning but the former Gabon manager defended his choice, saying the duo have not been given a chance because the team is blessed with a lot of attacking options.

When asked why the youngsters have not been given game time at the tournament, Rohr told BBC journalist Shina Okeleji:  “We’ve made changes in every game. We have a lot of strikers (7), we can not play all the strikers. The young players are here to learn. We’ve played 20 players already. Maybe we will see them play. We will play the best team on the pitch”.

The 66-year-old also revealed the team had to focus majorly on recovery session after the game against South Africa. He revealed some of the players had to recover from minor injuries they suffered in the game.  “We’ve had to recover. Some of our players have minor injuries. We train close to our hotel”.

Nigeria will be hoping to reach their first AFCON final since 2013 when they take on Algeria on Sunday night.
