FC Barcelona took on South American team Boca Juniors in their annual game to present the squad for the new season in the 2018/2019 edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy and the Catalans put up an impressive performance in front of their own fans as they got a comfortable 3-0 win in a friendly match that provided a lot of entertainment.
Goals from Malcom, Lionel Messi and Rafinha Alcantara meant Ernesto Valverde’s men capped off their last friendly game before the season starts in style. New signing Malcom put the Catalans ahead early on with a fantastic drive from the left wing that evaded the Boca Juniors goalkeeper, thanks to a Messi assist.
Barca seemed comfortable for most of the game but Boca Juniors provided some problems at times. However, Barca got their second before halftime through Lionel Messi after the new Captain lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper in vintage fashion.
The Barca number 10 along with a couple of big names were subbed off at halftime and one of the substitutes Rafinha Alcantara who impressed during the preseason games scored the third and final goal in sweet fashion as he volleyed the ball into an empty net after flicking the ball over the goalkeeper, Luis Suarez provided the assist.
Barca will start their official season in the league when they take on Alaves at the Camp Nou in La Liga with the sole aim of retaining the title whilst playing good football.
